World Day of Migrants and Refugees

08 August 2026

In honor of World Day of Migrants and Refugees, JRS Kosovo organized a series of impactful activities aimed at promoting the integration and well-being of refugees in Kosovo. One of the key activities were the informative health sessions, where participants received guidance on medical care and hygiene. The sessions, led by local health professionals, focused on crucial topics such as preventive care, the importance of vaccination, and mental health support, which are often areas of concern for displaced populations. According to one refugee, “The health session was very helpful. We now feel more aware of how to take care of ourselves and our families.”

In addition to health awareness, JRS organized a cultural and historical excursion to the city of Prizren, one of Kosovo’s most historically significant and picturesque cities. Prizren is home to diverse architectural and cultural sites, such as the UNESCO-listed Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour and the Sinan Pasha Mosque. The refugees had the chance to explore these landmarks, learn about Kosovo’s rich cultural diversity, and understand the country’s history of resilience. One participant shared, “I did not know that Kosovo had such a rich history. It made me feel connected to the community and helped me understand more about the place where I now live.”

Social activities were also organized with asylum seekers and detainees, offering opportunities for community building and solidarity. These activities included interactive games, storytelling, and sharing meals, all aimed at fostering a sense of belonging. The refugees expressed their gratitude for these gatherings, with one stating, “The social events gave us a chance to forget about our troubles for a while and enjoy time together.”

Through these meaningful engagements, JRS Kosovo reaffirmed its commitment to standing in solidarity with migrants and promoting social cohesion, making sure that everyone feels supported and welcomed in their new community. The events provided both educational and emotional support, helping to ease the challenges faced by displaced people in a new country.
