Friendship, Nature, and Belonging on World Refugee Day

08 August 2026

As part of World Refugee Day, we organized an excursion to the Mirusha Waterfalls together with our friends, creating an opportunity to spend time together away from daily routines and enjoy one of Kosovo’s natural treasures.

For many participants, this was their first visit to the Mirusha Waterfalls. The journey was filled with conversations, new connections, and curiosity about the place they were about to discover. Upon arrival, the waterfalls, lush greenery, and peaceful surroundings created an atmosphere of relaxation and well-being.

Throughout the day, participants walked together, shared stories, laughed, and formed new connections in a completely natural way. For some, it was an experience they had not enjoyed for a long time.

“I haven’t had such an enjoyable trip in a long time,” one participant shared.

Others especially appreciated the opportunity to spend time in a community setting and experience a sense of human connection.

“Thank you for a wonderful day together in such a beautiful community,” said one participant, while another added, “It was a great opportunity to connect with nature and communicate with people.”

Beyond the beauty of nature, the activity created space for encounters, conversations, and shared experiences that help strengthen a sense of belonging and community. These simple yet meaningful moments are at the heart of the message of World Refugee Day.

The excursion to Mirusha reminded us that a sense of belonging is built through welcome, human relationships, and time spent together. On a day dedicated to refugees around the world, participants had the opportunity to create beautiful memories, strengthen connections, and experience what this year’s message reminds us of: belonging starts with welcome.
